In a recent blog post, I discussed Five Things Disney Cruise Line Could Improve Upon. Now I’m coming for you, Walt Disney World! Walt Disney World is on of my most favorite places on Earth. I have been all over the place yet I keep going back to the Disney parks because of their magic. As much as I absolutely love visiting the parks and resorts, there are some things I would love to see Walt Disney World improve. Here are the top five things I’d like to see changed at Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World Could Improve FastPass+

Disney’s FastPass+ system can be a really great way to limit your time in lines in the theme parks. But there are so many problems with the current system. One- it’s hard to get many coveted FastPasses, such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Flight of Passage, and Slinky Dog Dash. Two- The tiers at three of the theme parks are crazy- to me that just says that there are not enough attractions in those parks. Three- You can only pre-select three per day, and you can’t even select multiple parks ahead of time!

The bottom line here is that FastPasses slow down the standby line. And if you’re lucky enough to get a FP+ reservation that’s fantastic, but it is difficult to know best which rides or which times will work for you. And I don’t have a true solution here. I’d love it if you could just show up to an attraction when you want to, like they have with the Universal Express Pass. I’m also curious if Disney charged extra for it if that would work (such as MaxPass at Disneyland). Or, should they get rid of it altogether?

The system is so bad that Disney decided no FastPasses would be offered for Galaxy’s Edge for the foreseeable future. I don’t have the answer, but I do not believe that the current FastPass+ system works very well at all.

Refillable Resort Mugs

Walt Disney World introduced Refillable Resort Mugs quite a while ago. They are reusable cups for coffee, soda, water, basically anything you can find in the resort food court or quick service area. They are really great in that you can purchase one (or one is included in your Disney Dining Plan) and it will be usable for your entire stay. The key word here that I have an issue with is “Resort.” Disney could easily improve upon these mugs!

Disney would do well to have these mugs work inside the theme parks as well. Who wants to fill a small cup and then carry it around empty to the parks all day? Or have to walk all the way back to your room to drop it off? If these worked in the parks you could keep filling it up all day and never go thirsty again!

I’d be willing to pay a higher price for them if they worked in the theme parks! This would also help with trash and the one-time use cups they currently give out!

Dining Plans

There are currently three dining plans Walt Disney World has to offer. For the most part, they are okay. However you really have to use them correctly to get your money’s worth out of them! My biggest issue here is the Deluxe Dining Plan which could really be improved. It includes three meals per person per night of stay. In order to make the Deluxe Plan worth it, you need to eat 3 sit-down meals per day, or at Signature Restaurants which take 2 credits every day. That’s a lot of food, and a lot of time sitting in restaurants. I’d love it if Disney had a 3 meal per day plan that was a more affordable price.

You must purchase a dining plan for every night of stay, and every person in the room must also purchase it. I can’t tell you how many clients ask me if they can get a dining plan for part of their stay only, or if they can skip it for their kids. I’d love it if Disney had a different option for those things as well.

Only resort guests can purchase a dining plan. That seems like a great idea in theory, but I know a lot of day guests would love this option. Universal and Sea World both have dining plan options for day guests. (And refillable mugs for the theme parks, see above!) It would be nice if one could get a quick service meal deal even when staying off-site.

Walt Disney World Could Improve Resort Perks

I really wish Walt Disney World would offer better perks to staying on-site. With so many hotels on Disney property, and more being built in the next few years, the Extra Magic Hours and the 60-day FastPass+ window is no longer cutting it! The perks are just too limited now that there are a billion hotel guests nightly (estimated number).

I’d love to see FastPass+ only for resort guests, or maybe even merchandise discounts or even more theme park hours. Another option is priority lines for food at quick service restaurants. Maybe resort guests should get to pre-select 4 or 5 FastPass+ options daily. I just think that there are too many on-site guests now to not make even more perks for them.

Parking Fees

Lastly, this is the most insane thing of all the Disney policies! Unless you are staying in a Vacation Club Villa on points, you must pay for resort parking! This has only recently gone into effect, and it just baffles me why they have done this! Not only do you have to pay for parking, you must pay more at a Deluxe Resort than at a Value Resort. Those parking spaces are the same size, it’s nuts to charge more based on where you’re staying. To say I dislike this policy is an understatement! I know that many guests are not affected because they don’t even have a car at Walt Disney World, but many of us do, and that must go into your budget planning. Parking fees really get my feathers ruffled here!

That’s my lis of things I think Disney World could improve! I have plenty more I could say, but I’ll save it for a future post. Do you agree? Is there anything you’d like to see WDW improve upon? Let me know in the comments!
